I listened to both last night, and the former was so wonderful that I listened to it three times. It sounded like it was recorded yesterday. Please consider that the source material was heavily compressed, so the drum sound really cannot be altered.profnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7948232351628286600.post-6177185673772167072023-01-07T03:01:40.116+01:002023-01-07T03:01:40.116+01:00Hi Prof,

They sound better than they ever have, and I am thrilled about that, as a lifelong Beatles fanatic (now "When I'm 64").

I have one friendly criticism (if I may). When you re-mix the rockers, I think they are perfect: drums in the middle where they should be, and the right volume. But for the softer, more "pop" songs, I think they are mixed too loudly. Why is that? Shouldn't they be softer in volume? I know it's not difficult to have variable volumes. Generally, for my own burned CDs of these albums, I go with Lord Reith for the softer songs, and you (virtually always) for the rockers.

My second query is more of a statement: probably related to technical limitations.

For the early albums, I have noticed (through my speakers, not so much headphones) that the cymbal sounds come out as an annoying, constant white noise.

I take it that this is a remaining limitation of de-mixing. Can you explain that, if my suspicion is incorrect?

Thanks so much for reading, and again, for your (surely) very laborious (labor of love) efforts to deliver these early Beatles albums in glorious sound. I truly appreciate your efforts.

Dave Armstrong

[frequent reviewer of Beatles albums on Amazon, under "David G. Armstrong: my Sgt.
