Who? Retired sound engineer who loves music from the 60's & early 70's.
What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
Wow, thank you very much. I just compared this to the Third Eye, and yours sounds much better and more natural. I have known for a while that the Third Eye was bass boosted but I didn't have a better one to replace it, until now. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you... THANK YOU Prof! Nice to see you. This sounds absolutely phenomenal. But may I ask why you decided the 1 channel over the L+R sum? I'm not an expert ripper so just curious.
This is the by far the best mono i've heard of it, Thank you so so much Prof. Stoned!!! if anyones interested, here's a high resolution cover scan https://ptpimg.me/ko05bx.jpg
Folding channels is mainly recommended for masking surface noise and distortion. It lessens high-end snap because you are changing the transcients of the waveform. A single channel will give better fidelity.
Thank you so much for sharing your love of a great one from one of the greatest years in music. This interrupts my acute obsession with Francoise Hardy, who also released a remarkable album that year, which of course is much better in mono. But this does indeed give comfort, and I hope you feel good to share it as well.
Well, today I thought "It's ages since I had a look at profstoned's site, wonder if there's anything new?" - that was good timing! Huge thanks are due for all the outstanding work you have done (and continue to do), and for the generosity of sharing the fruits of your passion & expertise.
You sir are a champ - thank you for taking on board the comments re. distortion (many wouldn't have the humility...) and then going to the trouble of making a new rip for us
Prof - A very, very belated thanks to you. Your generosity in sharing your hard work is much appreciated. Your skills in transfers, mastering and collecting information have greatly enriched my audio collection. I've been a fan of yours for years, via your remaster of the Who LP "Who Is This?" (live in Germany 1972). Though I actually own the LP, I'd rather listen to your remaster! I also follow you on SHF. Again, sorry I haven't thanked you sooner. Your most recent batch of titles has brought much joy in trying times. Please consider continuing your work, if possible...many of us eagerly await any new posts from you. Take care, and THANKS, my friend... Jon H.
Amazing audio again for this absolute must have...sounds as good as my original VG copy of this mono mix, minus the annoying ticks and clicks of course! THANK YOU!!!
Hi, I am able to download the RAR files to my Mac but the password does not help with opening them. It just says "Downloads/13_PS_LR.rar is not RAR archive No files to extract" Any advice on what I am doing wrong? Thanks very much for doing all this work.
I thought I had commented but I can't find it ... thank you very much! your rips are great! I also have a small blog and I'd like to have a judgment on: https://bordeldorock.blogspot.com/2018/12/13th-floor-elevators-psychedelic-sounds.html - thanks!
Thank you! Sounds better than my Sundazed Mono LP, which isn’t bad, it’s just clearly from a higher generation copy. This needledrop sounds clearer with more crisp top end, tighter bass, and less distortion. It’s brighter than the Sundazed, but not in a bad way. Very nice. The Sundazed was still a gem for us, but this does sound better.
Update: The aforementioned comparison was just with side 1, after which I switched permanently to the cd for the remainder. During this (side 2 tracks) I found parts of it to be extremely bright, mainly in some guitar parts. I hard to turn the volume down on my stereo cause it hurt my ears. My Boston acoustics do tend to lean towards the bright side for what it’s worth, but it’s rarely an issue. Just some honest feedback. Thanks.
The mono mix does not sound great in any guise. This rip is the most accurate representation. Bright and lo-fi but in the best quality available overall. I would be more interested to hear Prof tackle the stereo version, to be honest. There are some great rips out there but each one has issues in different places. It's hard to get a consistent result.
I can't thank you enough for this, sounds fantastic especially considering the poor quality of the Charly CD and Vinyl reissues. You really do know your audio, the transfers and mastering are absolutely stunning.
Thanks for the great rip!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for a tremendous share..
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! :)
