What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
Found your website for the first time today, when I started reading about the new mono/stereo SACD AYE online. Thank you very much for all your efforts on this album. I never realized how awesome the mono "Red House" is until I heard your master. Cheers!
Hi Prof, thanks once again! Wanted to point out that the mono files for Love Or Confusion and Fire are 24-bit/44.1 kHz, instead of 16-bit/44.1 kHz like the rest in the ZIP file. Just a reminder for anyone to convert those tracks to 16-bit before attempting to burn to CD (otherwise, you may be greeted with static like I was!)
I have no clue how I missed this. But I've been following your Barclay mono AYE rip since I was 16 in high school. I had the original from the green demon site burned to a blank CD, and it was my go-to that I shared with everyone I knew, including the singles.
I just replaced my copy of the 2017 rip, and I'm definitely really appreciating the clarity and mix. I'm 28 now. It's been 12 years, what a ride. Thanks for brightening my youth.
Hi Prof Stoned, thank you so, so, so much for all your very hard work to put this beautiful set together! Before I found your site I never knew 1960s Hendrix could ever sound as good as you've made it. I wanted to give a little something more than a thanks back so here's the tracklist I put together for a version of mono AYE that includes all the tracks from the sessions:
Foxy Lady/Manic Depression/Red House/Can You See Me/51st Anniversary/Hey Joe/Love Or Confusion/The Wind Cries Mary/Highway Chile/I Don't Live Today/May This Be Love/Purple Haze/Fire/Stone Free/Third Stone From.../Are You Experienced
It took a number of tries but I think I got it right this time, and I hope you enjoy it if you do ever choose to try it out. So thank you so very much for letting me really enjoy one of my now-favorite artists as I never could before. Lots of love, Justin
By the way, I really liked how you used the US tracklist for the stereo album and the UK one for the mono. Quite creative! : )
Finally got my hands on the Jimi Hendrix Experience's 1st "Are you experienced" now on SACD! Frankly I was disappointed, your hi-res remaster from vinyl sounds way better, brighter, crisper and very much in your face!! You are indeed a master of your craft! Many Thanks!
Hello Prof! It's fantasic (And incredibly sonically consistent!) set, and so thank you very much for it!
I do have a question though: What are the crackles after some of the guitar twangs in the stereo Can You See Me? They're in all the versions of the (stereo) album I've heard... Are they flaws in the tape? A recording issue? If you have any idea I'm keen to know.
Thank you very much Prof. I am looking to get into Jimi Hendrix, and I appreciate your wonderful work in providing these pieces in such good quality. Hope you are well!
Hi again Prof, I've got another question. In the write-up you said the 2013 mono vinyl reissue used some single masters. Do you know if the mono sacd uses them too, and if these are THE mono mastertapes used for the 3 songs, or copies thereof? Hope you're well
Wonderful work! I'm normally quite sceptical about vinyl rips, but this really does sound like how it was meant to! This is now my go-to digital version.
We have very similar setups - that Jelco arm works wonders on the 1210. The At33ptg is a very 'truthful' cartridge too. My At33ptg was improved with the AT630 step-up transformer. Got rid of my valve stage (too much measured distortion and noise), now use MM input of my Cambridge Audio alva duo - great performance.
As much of this music is now half a century old (and I've been enjoying it for that long, like many here), to find superior sounding versions created with intelligence and love are like Xmas on every page. Thanks for your work!
Prof, Listening to a Hendrix marathon is a summertime tradition for me and the 2020 work you did on AYE, Axis: ... & Electric Ladyland still can't be beat (especially the work you did on the mono edition AYE ... no man has worked harder to present the perfection to Hendrix's work than you). I must have thanked you just about every year since you posted these but I just want you to know that, for probably most Hendrix fans, it is so satisfying to know that on these 3 albums no one needs to look any further ... (I said it before .... These Are The Gold Standards !)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to make these recordings available! There is nothing like mid 60's mono recordings. :)
