  1. My magnum opus for this year. I think I’ll be going on a hiatus for a couple months again now, because I gotta work up some new things that are in line with the quality of my previous offerings, and those projects just don’t finish themselves in a couple days, y’know. Thank you for commenting and showing your appreciation.

Also, don’t forget to thank fishanthrope for going the extra mile to deliver the absolute best artwork. Thanks dude!

  2. Thanks Prof there's always a gap, sometimes many months between projects but you always come back with a bang and the wait is always worth it. This looks a sensational collection, many tracks I've never heard before. Looking forward to hearing this, all the best, enjoy your break.
    ps cheers fishanthrope

If you haven't heard Gary Clark jr, check out a live show

  12. FAntastic. Great job, really. I was lucky enough to get an original mono-vinyl back in 72. I was young and well... a few years later the vinyl was rather worn. So I bought another one. I didn't pay attention at first but when the new one got its first spin I noticed the difference. I always played the old worn record afterwards. When I switched to CD in the early nineties I digitalized my old record and always waited for a true mono-edition to emerge on CD. Never did. Until now. So hats off. Thanks a lot.
    Mike from Germany.
p.s.: I always waited for a complete chronological Mayall-box. The man would deserve the honour but I guess that won't ever happen. So we'll have to collect the recordings from dozens of different cds and records for all future.
    p.p.s.:
I saw Mayall some four weeks ago. Of course he lost some of his instrumental abilities but his stage presence is still enormous. Great musician.

  14. When I was a kid my parents and their friends openly said "Why are all these young white British guys doing such a good job with American Blues?" Thanks so much for letting me consider that questions again!

  16. WOW!!! This may be the single best thing I have ever downloaded. Magnum Opus indeed. More Blues, (less Simon & Garfunkel). Just MHO.

  28. Hi Prof. Great Mayall collection. What can you tell us about the mono mix of " A Hard Road" LP. Dedicated mono or fold down?

    ReplyDelete
  29. True mono and far superior to the stereo.

  30. Will that be on your adgenda one of these days?

  31. Excellent work (needle drop) at a high level. I would love to have this work in wav or lossless format. At the moment listening to mp3 that does not deliver all the quality of this wonderful work. Thank you very much.

  32. A real gem, thanks for all the hard work!

  34. Prof,
I bought the enormous box set "The First Generation 1965 - 1974" recently so naturally I had go back and revisit to your compilation. I really don't understand why Madfish didn't add a disc of the mono singles as well as the mono mixes of "A Hard Road" & "Crusade" to make this chapter of John's career as complete as possible but I'm sure they have their reasons (no access to masters, etc).
But let me thank you (for the first time ... must've been to shy to write back in 2018 when I first discovered your site) for your work on your compilation of John's singles. The mono versions have such a nice "punch" to them (like all singles should be).
