  3. Thanks good Prof. I will add it on to the end of Then Play On. Good to see your blog kicking into life after a quiet spell

  4. No no, better add it to FM's self-titled (also here on the blog). This single is quite different from the stuff they did on TPO. This was their early blues-based period from which they gradually evolved to the more progressive approach on TPO.

  5. Wow, I had absolutely no idea that Black Magic Woman had a mono mix. I always assumed that the single was just a fold. Good thing I'm wrong, though!

    Thanks, pf.

  6. The first three singles are dedicated mono's and unavailable elsewhere. After that, it was folddown time (Albatross, Man of the world). Same goes for Mr. Wonderful, which was a direct to stereo recording (which obviously allows no real remixing). This revelation came from original recording engineer Mike Ross with whom I've talked recently on SHtv. Nice fellow who likes to share stories about the good old times and he has a good memory to boot.

  7. Hey Prof - so my original UK mono of Mr. Wonderful is a folddown? I can't remember even seeing a stereo copy.

  8. Thanks for the info, prof. I sure learned a lot today. Question, though: even though technically the first 3 includes "Shake Your Moneymaker", I don't really include that since it's taken from their debut. What I want to know is this: is "Need Your Love So Bad," the next single in line, a dedicated mix, or is it the first in the folddown series?

And that's a very interesting link. Amazing how much Ross has recalled in that post alone! Tragic how Jimi never stepped into CBS again to record, though…

  9. With first three I meant the UK singles (Shake your moneymaker was a Scandinavian/Dutch/German only single), so NYLSB is indeed a true monomix (and a nice one!). Still looking for an unworn copy of that.

  10. @Prof and everyone else: there´s a nice 2005 Japanese remaster of Chicken Shack´s "Accept" still available here:

The bonus "Hideaway" is also on the "Complete Blue Horizon" set. I´ve still got my original LPs - all in stereo - but I know "Forty Blue Fingers" and "OK Ken" were also released in mono.

  11. Thanks for that, Tambler. I DL-ed it, it's the same mastering as on the 3CD from 2006.

  12. @Prof: You wouldn´t have the first 2 albums in mono by any chance? I know a collector who bought "Forty Blue Fingers" in mono just to annoy me"! LOL

What is not clear, however, is whether they were dedicated mono mixes.

  13. No, I don't have them. Would have to ask Mike Ross, as I'm sure he knows.

  14. I´m sure at least "FBF" was definitely a "mono" mix tweaked into stereo. I´m from the European offshore islands and the first mainstream stereo recordings - singles/albums - I remember were from 1969/70. Prior to then stereo was just a gimmick.

  15. I think it's very likely to FBF is indeed a dedicated mono mix. It came out at the same time as the first FM album, when mono was still the format that the majority of British buyers went with.

  16. @Prof: to quote the saintly Linda de Mol "Dat stimmt". LOL

  17. Looks like the links for the Hi Res are down. Any chance you could restore the links Prof? These rips all sound amazing. Thank you so much.

  18. Pretty convenient the "Black Magic Woman" post already existed before. Thus allowing you to simply update the post and make this into a "Singles Collection" of some sort!

Prof, I'm assuming the two already-released singles (IBMTAL & BMW) are just repackages, not new rips, so would it be safe to trash those since I already have those on my HD from your previous releases? Either way, it's great that you chose to repack them here and give them some greater exposure once again.

Hearing the new single included here, I'm not really a fan of those strings honestly (though they may grow on me eventually), but I love that rockin' B-side number. You can really tell these guys got talent and that they'd go far on their blues journey to come...

  19. These all sound fantastic. And like the person who posted above, I especially like the B-side of the "Need Your Love So Bad" single - the horns are a nice touch. Thank you very much!

  22. use to buy mono records in the they were cheaper. but after listening to your work and remembering the old stones albums from england because they weren't that popular yet to press them here is the best. thanks

  24. I downloaded these also. Peter Green is my all-time fovorite guitarist. Not the best, but, in my opinion, the BEST at the BLUES! Even better than Eric.
