F.A.Q.
Who? Retired sound engineer who loves music from the 60's & early 70's.
What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
I listened to this album from start to finish last night. Safe to say, it's fantastic, the lyrics and especially the music together combined. It's no wonder Jimmy Page chose to cover "Taurus" on his fourth album for LZ!
I remember getting a rip of the Sundazed from Avax in the beginning of 2012... safe to say, with obvious clipping (that the ripper tried to compensate for afterwards by reducing the gain) and clicks, it was not great. I got garybx's rip of the Sundazed a few months ago, but suffice to say, I still was unsatisfied with it. Now, though, I can finally put my Spirit-ual journey to rest with this version. Thanks a bunch, prof.!
When I first bought this album in the '60s, I decided to return it for a new copy because Side 1 was stereo and Side 2 was mono. The proprietor, whom I knew well, joked that it was a "collector's item". If it went on ebay today, I wonder how true his remark would have turned out to be.
BTW: Just want to add a note about Sundazed, but I've heard that ever since they switched to QRP with Kevin Gray cutting their lacquers, the quality of their vinyl has dramatically risen and have become super quiet, as evidenced by Q's recent excellent rip of Hurdy Gurdy Man. Reports are also coming in that these new masterings are superior, enough to warrant an upgrade. Just thought I'd put it out there for people who are interested.
Wow. Just, wow. Easily one of my favorite albums of all time. Between this and the Zappa you also posted, I don't know how I'm going to handle myself. Thank you SO much, Prof. Stoned!
Well Prof' I was reading Chris Charlesworth's blog this morning and your Who 1969 sbd's were mentioned so I thought I'd better check out what you've been up to. Awesome posts as always. We wait in the background for you to give us your labours. Many thanks indeed. best regards - John (AA)
Just wanted to say that while I think PB is the most consistant ripper we have, everytime I d'load a rip of yours - no matter who has also done it - I almost always save yours as my go to version. Your dedication to making a rip sound the best it can is astounding. These latest batches of rips are just terrific sounding! Thanks alot Prof.
This Record Has Spun On My Record Player Starting At Age 14.I Really Enjoy Playing It Late At Night. The Treatment That You Gave This Album...Well You Can't Imagine What It Has Done To My Senses.Thank You.
This rip sounds INCREDIBLE... I cannot quite believe what a good job you have done with Q. The fidelity is fantastic. This is a desert island disc for me (... or maybe Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus). Magical vocals and instrumentation. Thank you Prof. Made my day, made my year LOL ;)
