Who? Retired sound engineer who loves music from the 60's & early 70's.
What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
Great - thanks for upgrading these. I have to point out though that Led Zeppelin were never actually called 'The New Yardbirds', they were called 'The Yardbirds', then 'Led Zeppelin'. The 'New' thing came from a gig poster where an over-zealous promoter added it to try and attract in the punters. They were billed as The Yardbirds at all the other pre-Zeppelin shows. This has long since been confirmed by researchers like Dave Lewis, but the myth endures....
Hi Prof...these sound Awesome...but YouShook Me Cuts off before the end. I downloaded it twice to make sure I hadn't screwed up... Can you Check it please. Thanks!! -RubberSolof
This is pretty much the only worthwhile stuff from those sessions. Quite sure there's more in the archives, but Page opted to use only roughs from the last batch of remasters.
The problem with those multi-disc "complete studio sessions" bootlegs is that a lot of the "sessions" are really just rehearsal cassettes recorded with a boombox and uncut demo "jam" sessions and so forth, so it becomes ponderous very quickly. Someone should isolate only the genuine studio outtakes. That is something I would pay attention to.
Great sound on this one. I don't mean to be disrespectful at all but I noticed these run fast. I did compare them to standard tuning and they are spot on (the A note) but... If you listen to the drums they are really fast sounding. I applied a speed change in Audacity of (percent change) -5.00 and it sounds correct to me there. It affects tempo and pitch when you change the speed. In the tab called Effect-Pitch and Tempo-Change Speed. Check it out. I realized a lot of bootlegs seem to run fast for whatever reason. I appreciate all your work and thank you so very much.
So the first two tracks (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You) run a bit faster than the last two. The last two sounded like maybe a -1.00 percent speed change. This is subjective anyways so I could be off my rocker.
Thanks for this! Never heard these versions; the raw energy is palpable indeed. Thrown out with the trash... can you imagine??

ReplyDeleteGood to know. It's probably my favorite period for the band so I might just get those.
