Who? Retired sound engineer who loves music from the 60's & early 70's.
What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
I'm loving this remix, thank you so much for it Prof. My two favourite things so far are the piano you really brought up in No Reply, and how the claps weave about the stereo image on Words Of Love. Amazing technology! I'm ever grateful for this magic you do.
Of course you don't take requests, but have you considered doing the other 5 songs from Led Zeppelin II to complete a remix of the record? Or do you think the quality of the 2 different types of remixes would be too different to make it cohesive, or something else?
TY for your work on 2 great albums.Already have some great copies of Beatles For Sale but this goes to the top of list.Vocals backed off just enough to let the instruments shine.Great balance-I thank you and Ringo thanks you.Nice to hear those drums on No Reply.
Just wow! This is such a perfect mix and mastering job. The balance and dynamics are fantastic. The drums finally in balance. Great job-thank you for this new experience!
I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard that beginning. Haha. Like you said, the purists can stay away. Actually, I think many purists would enjoy your work regardless, because it sounds so good.
For me, and many others, this was the early Beatles album that sounded better in stereo than mono. The mono was a bit over-compressed and lifeless, but the stereo really shone, and wasn't too lopsided like some of the other early stereo mixes. That said, I think I may prefer The Prof's version.
Didn't want to check it first but when I saw the comments that you've mixed Eight Days a Week intro to full volume, I'm sell Thanks for the great remix!
Prof, Once again your fine hand has unearthed fresh sounds from an album I thought I knew inside and out.. I just can't stop listening to your entire Beatles remix / remaster series....thank you is just not adequate for the joy your bringing me.
This sounds fantastic! Easily the best stereo mix I've heard. People like to give this album crap, but I've always thought it is underrated. I agree with you Prof; this one has some original gems. Plus, "Rock and Roll Music" and "Kansas City" rank as some of their best covers in my opinion.
The anticipation for a remixed Rubber Soul is building...
Like many others I had pre-ordered. It was an overcast day, and after school I went to the shops to pick it up. I had an afterschool job and this was my first Beatle LP bought with my own money. I was 13. Thanks for bringing a great memory back.
Prof,. Looks like your influence is finally forcing the "Beatle Continuium " to finally use what Brian Kehew said that Abbey Road Studio developed a software program they call MAL Just like Dr Ebbetts; you have, though your abilities to separate elements and come up with proper stereo Beatles remixes, have forced their hand. Guarantee unlike your beautiful work, Giles Martin will wind up remixing to appease the " beats headphone" generation with too much compression as well as excessive volume. Here's a link to The Daily Beatle...http://webgrafikk.com/blog/news/mal-software-saved-revolver-mix/
I listened to the samples of the Revolver mixes and the full version of Taxman made available today. Although it's good, I believe the Prof's stereo mixes of the Beatles are superior. The Prof mixes are better in bass drum alignment, stereo separation and over balance.
The "Taxman" extraction remix is horrible, but the Hoffman Forum is jerking itself into a frenzy over how fantastic beyond reproach it supposedly is. It's both funny and sad. I know lots of folks who agree, but nobody has the balls to call them out on it, should they be crucified for being party pooper meanies.
Thank you very much Prof. Stoned by the album "Beatles For Sale" and the Extras. I don't know how to describe technically what I hear. I only react to the sound, it is indescribably wonderful. Wow!
Thanks so much for all your wonderful work - can't wait for more Beatles! Your remixes really sets the highest standard for what can be achieved with these fabulous recordings.
Wow! Thanks Prof! These are all amazing. Aside from a tonal shift affecting the clarity at times on "I Feel Fine", everything you've produced with these Beatles albums has been absolutely incredible! I feel like I'm discovering them again for the first time. Thank you!
Fantastic!! Thanks so much.

ReplyDeleteProf, how did you get Eight Days a Week with a full-volume beginning like that?

Umm, so true, not for the purist. I actually like the mono version best but, with that said, this sounds really well.

ReplyDelete2 Programs (Foobar & Trader's Little helper) stated that all 17 files are corrupted. Could you please reup?
ReplyDeleteHave you considered that the problem might be with you? Download incomplete, for example?
DeleteIt was a password issue. 7zip will extract the files with a bad password, & then make them unplayable.
DeleteThanks so much for all the work and attention to detail, you give these the attention they deserve
