  19. Thank you dear professor for another gem. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. My eternal gratitude, Professor! Making the original mono mixes of the "Hey Joe"/"Stone Free" single alone available in excellent quality is an incredible gift to all of us.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Downloading now...will soon turn the amp up to "11" and rip off the knobs!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thank you Professor for your fine work in commemorating the 50th anniversary of this great album. Janie Hendrix & Sony have seriously dropped the ball on marking the anniversary, though I'm sure any effort on their part to present the core AYE tracks would have fallen far short of your spectacular effort!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fantastic! Many thanks indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Once again, the Good Prof steps into the void and delivers the GREATS. Many, MANY thanks, ProfStoned. What a treat! :)

  27. Thank you very much!
I've just bought the mono version of Axis: Bold as love on vinyl. So I'm really curious how AYE in mono sounds.

  28. Now I am further experienced - thanks very much!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought AYE didn't get any better than the Barclay mono. I missed the UK mono repressing from a few years ago before it went OOP.

But all that seems unimportant now. This is one heck of a release Prof.

This is so damn well put together, researched and documented that it should have been an official release. Wow. Just Wow. This is so good that I have to let my dad know as he was the first person to turn me onto Hendrix and played me all of his bootleg LPs he had collected in his teens when I was a kid.

    Thank you so much!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Awesome as usual. Thanks a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We are lucky there are some beautiful people out there with a passion to share their love of music in ways no record companies can ever do.
    God bless Prof Stoned

  33. This is just really good stuff. Thank you for the time and effort you put into it, and for sharing it with us.

  36. Another great release of one of the great debut albums of all time. Thank you so much for this rare treat.

    ReplyDelete
  37. this is IT, thankk you so much.

    ReplyDelete
  38. one minor correction on the sessiongraphy file: the mono take of Red House comes from an earlier session in December... Thanks again!
    Doc

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nope. It's not from CBS. It's a live take with vocals, but no vocals were recorded at CBS. An excellent article appeared in Univibes about this subject, which concluded that both takes must have been recorded at the same session at De Lane Lea.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for your hard work with this. I'm looking forward to having a good listen. It's much appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks so much, Professor. I cannot locate it now, but I believe you wrote something "way back when" about not revisiting this album again if you could help it. As much as you appear to love Hendrix, I smiled when I read that and thought "we'll see about that". Well, I'm glad you did and I'm looking forward to listening to your celebratory set here. You're on a roll this year and I thank you again and wish you much happiness as you continually share this great music with all of us making us extremely happy! Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  42. mmm... probably right about CBS st., but they do sound different, at least to these ears, maybe both at De Lane Lea but from different sessions? What do you think?
    Doc

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks so much for this and all the other posts, Prof!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks so much - this is wonderful!
Am hoping that you also fancy giving Axis: Bold As Love the same treatment in future :)
    Thanks again.
    James - UK

  45. Praise hail satan!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Great work. Much appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This sounds really good. Too bad there aren't any stereo versions of "51th Anniversary", "Stone Free" or "Highway Chile" but the rest is probably the best I've ever heard it.

    Thanks for all your efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Can't wait to hear this through the headphones. Many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This is the first time I've heard the US configuration of AYE. It's... yeah. Having only ever heard it in its UK form since I first heard it back in 1990 (via that first Polydor CD edition mentioned in the notes), I'm *really* thrown by the differences. I quite like "Wind Cries Mary" as the side 2 opener, but the other tracks that are moved about just seem... wrong somehow. (To be honest I've never been a fan of "Red House", which is probably heretical of me.)

I continue to be amazed by the UK mono mix, so many different things going on to the stereo version. (Never did understand why markedly different takes/performances were used for respective mono and stereo mixes...) And don't sell your own mastering skills too short either; this sounds better than I suspect the Hendrix estate's own version might've done had they bothered to release one.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks Prof. Stoned. Sitting back and enjoying Jimi and a few brews. The sound is amazing. Thanks.

  51. EXCELLENT!
Thank You so very much !

  52. Anyone else getting an error extracting 24/96 files? I'm looking forward to hearing this professor but I can't unpack it. I believe there may be a problem with track 08. Fire. Either that or I'm the problem. Thanks for all your hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank You Prof. Your previous version has been my go too for a long time. Can't wait to get this going in the car..

    ReplyDelete
  54. @loadwarrior, it works here.... I use an older version of winrar.

  77. Where on earth did you come from? I found this site today and I'm truly grateful. Exquisite taste--which might just be the most important--as well as execution. Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  78. my guess is you are not posting anymore, since the last one was august of 2017

    ReplyDelete
  79. This is the way it should be done. Thanks for your efforts, Prof. We truly appreciate the love and detail you put into this.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm coming to the party rather late, but thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  81. You're skills are impeccably top notch on everything you do.
Thanks for giving attention to the details that far too many labels ( and some of the artists) seem to regard as incidental.
    Carry on Professor!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. (Yay, I get to be the 100th comment, but more importantly)
Thank you for your dedication to music, your rips, and for your blog, which I only discovered recently. I hope we'll see Axis get the same treatment this year.

    ReplyDelete
  83. My god, man. I haven't actually listened to anything I've downloaded yet but the amount of work you put into this project - talk about a labor of love! You are a stellar example of the greatness that can come out of the internet - doing something out of love and wishing to share it with the world. Thank you thank you thank you and again, I thank you! Not necessarily stoned...but beautiful...

    ReplyDelete
  84. What an Experience ,never heard this so good, much cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Looking forward to hearing this config. Thanks for all you do, much appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Wow Prof, this is absolutely amazing. This is the benchmark for all AYE issues, bar none. Many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Profesor:
more than a year waiting for your news ... is it okay?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow, this sounds amazing. I have a vinyl rip from a very popular vinyl ripper and I think this sounds as good if not better than his. This one has a warmer and richer sound, plus all the extra B-sides, etc. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Just happened to notice this in the notes:

"All mono recordings mastered from a single stereo channel (no L+R folding)."

Can I ask why? Usually using both channels and folding, making sure they are precisely aligned, will result in less noise and distortion. The mono music is in-phase while much of the noise and distortion is out of phase, so folding results in a better ratio of music to noise and distortion.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This record was not cut with a mono head, the L&R channels differed too much. Also, there is no noise or distortion here that is not part of the recording itself.

    ReplyDelete
  91. thank you so much for this great post

    ReplyDelete
  92. The 17 original mono versions, UK order. The 14 true stereo versions, US order. All in the best possible sound. Nothing else. This is *THE* version of AYE! (“Experience” or whatever that company is called would never even be able to conceive of something like this.) Thank you Prof!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Having all the mono mixes in such quality gathered in one place is a true gift to the music fan. Thanks Prof for this and all your work.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks a lot Prof, best blog so far. Excellent quality achieved through a lot of effort put down by you. The Pink Floyd mono was superb, looking forward to hear the AYE Mono release. Keep up the good quality!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hey just wanted to say thank you so much for your work and all of the time put into your blog, @Prof. Stoned. At the end of the day, I believe there aren't too many things during our lives', that we all hold so close, and so dearly- as we do with music. It truly is universal and everyone should have the opportunity to have a piece of it; which is what you provide thru your blog here. Have a good one!

    Cheers,

    -Cole R

  96. So deeply grateful for your hard work, skills, and good ears that I must now march thru all posts I've benefitted from and say thanks. For whatever reason (don't ask), I'm building a collection of classic 60s mono mixes and committing each to 8-track tape (since none were ever released that way), for personal listening. Of course your site has been a priceless resource for these, especially the rare titles the labels haven't released (or done so satisfactorily).

I used the present set to compile a US mono album, sequenced per the US stereo tape. Listening now thru one speaker - wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thanks for stopping by and posting your thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  98. wonderful work sir - outstanding

    ReplyDelete
  99. Your hard work is worth the effort. Sounds incredible. My go to for sure. Keep up the great work. Your are an asset to the music community.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Great service to the community, many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  102. This is an amazing compilation of Jimi's first recordings and it's so cool to hear the original UK mono version of AYE. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thank you so much for this and your other rips!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thank you for your efforts. I appreciate it very much.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I've never heard AYE sound so good. Thank you, Prof!

    ReplyDelete
  106. D'habitude, j'aime pas trop les profs, mais la, chapeau!! Merci, Prof!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I've been itching to hear the mono mix of Purple Haze for so long now. Thank you so much!!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Se isso for o que parece ser, meu Deus do céu (escrevi "Deus" até em maiúsculo), serei eternamente grato.

    ReplyDelete
  109. UK Nik here. Hendrix was my first love. Axis was my first album, for a while my only album: I used to play it in my head on long car journeys with my mum and dad to pass the time, note perfect, then EL, and AYE in mono the third. I got a fake stereo then a real one then the U.S. Reprise version and later your remastering from a few years ago. Thanks. I appreciate your work. I've got a Strat now, but I know there's not enough time in this lifetime at the age of 67 to play like Hendrix. Love and Peace!

    ReplyDelete
  110. UK Nik: Correction: no maybe the fake stereo one was the Track UK Smash Hits LP. Gotta dig out my vinyl, gathering dust on a top shelf....

    ReplyDelete
  111. Awesome!!!! Many many thanks again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Thank you so much for this Prof! You're a blessing in this difficult lockdown. Hearty cheers from India ;)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Thank you Professor! I really appreciate! Very kind from you!

  114. Greetings from Argentina!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Sounds great - thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Thank you profstoned. You do excellent work.
    dr blues

    ReplyDelete
  117. Wow Prof ... I did not see this coming. Your 2017 remaster / restoration is the Gold Standard so the fact that you've gone back in here in 2020 to revisit part 2 (the mono section) is mindblowing.. Can't wait to wrap my ears around it.

    ReplyDelete
  118. THANK YOU so very much!!!
Your restoration work is such unbelievableble amazing quality!!!
I own every digital remaster release of Jimis albums and none of them is even close to your work... Its such a pleasure to hear Jimis music in this amazing fidelity!!!
I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish so much for more Jimi vinyl restoration of yours!!!

    THANK YOU!!

    Ben

    ReplyDelete
  119. Thanks very much. Your 2017 remaster was terrific so really looking forward to hearing your new version.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Muchas gracias Prof Stoned for this excellent sounding share: it's greatly appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Prof,
I've A/B-ing the 2017 / 2020 all morning through my Sennheisers and what I'm hearing is definitely a clearer sound over all. There seems to be no loss of low end frequency in fact the 2020 version seems to do it without that slightly compressed feeling on the 2017 version.
I hope some of your audio engineering / mastering peers are paying attention to what your doing here because you keep setting the bar higher ...Cheers !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. thank you, Professor. Cheers from Brazil...

    ReplyDelete
  123. Bravo, Prof Stoned - thank you as always for the hard work :-)

    ReplyDelete
  124. You really are a perfectionist. We are all very fortunate. Cheers prof......

    ReplyDelete
  125. Thank you for the great effort. Your rips are keepers.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Thanks Prof. Great work as always.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Love your work Prof!

I am, however, having difficulty downloading files as I am getting "Sorry, you can't view or download this file at this time." This has been occurring for much of the past week.

Is there something I should be doing differently?

    Thanks in advance

    ReplyDelete
  128. Referred to in first post, top page.

    ReplyDelete
  129. as always, your editions are the definitive ones! if only the labels would put so much care into their releases.. thank you very much, prof!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Prof Stoned,
Thanks so much for your hard work. The results are amazing and are being enjoyed here at a particularly trying time.

For so many years, I have particularly found the sound of the Hendrix / 13th Floor Elevators reissues infuriating, at times virtually unlistenable - thanks for giving us of these records that sound true and musical.

All the best! Keep 'em comin'!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Damn Prof, I cant stop listening to this mono update ... It sound great on all of my audio venues. Right now I'm outside (the summer AYE came out I heard it outside on my older sister's portable AM / FM record player so for me listening outside is pure nostalgia) listening on my Bose Soundlink III, and it packs a punch.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I can't begin to tell you how many times the 16 y.o. me fried his brain to this album. A true classic! Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Awesome! To my ageing ears, they sound as fresh as when I first listened to these tracks on my brothers stereo 30yrs ago!!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thanks for the upgrade Prof!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I feel like I've come home. Welcome back Prof, and thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Thankyou very much. Really appreciated. Your versions of AYE are my go to listens for this album.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Thank you so much. First time I downloaded any of your stuff and I am very impressed

    ReplyDelete
  138. JDownloader does no work. Can't get file

    ReplyDelete
  139. Much obliged for this upgrade of your 2017 set. As always, you set the benchmark

    ReplyDelete
  140. Thank you for the time and trouble you spend on these for us to enjoy. Much appreciated

    ReplyDelete
  141. Hi I can't download files, been trying for days. Google drive I can't download the file

    ReplyDelete
  142. Thanks Prof Stoned, you're doing great and we appreciate you very much. Have a nice day!

    ReplyDelete
  143. I've been following your mono 'Are You Experienced' posts since the original installment you posted with the French Barclay cover. This version indeed sounds more even than your 2017 version, with a little less of the bright highs we love and a couple dBs of tasteful gain. Man, this record just drips acid... Thanks for the update!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Thanks for the updated version.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Thank you for the updated mono!

    ReplyDelete
  146. I've spent hours listening to a plethora of vinyl rips and digital offerings, this compilation is best by far, both the mono and the stereo tracks are IMHO the pinnacle of AYE. Many thanks and congratulations on amazing work! All the very best from Harold from Thailand

    ReplyDelete
  147. Thanks again from a guy who loved Hendrix's music even before he knew what an electric guitar was. Great work. I've still got my old Track records on a dusty shelf, should get them out and give them a spin. Many many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I can't thank you enough for this. I've been DYING to get a decent version of this mono mix. I've been singing its praises (especially the mono mix of 'Red House' which elevates it from a good blues throwaway to a stone classic) but having only low bit rate YT clips to listen to. Until now. Much gratitude.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Thanks Professor, I have the Barclay AYE mono vinyl but prefer to listen to your digital version. It's a beautiful thing. Your rips are invaluable to me and the research that goes with them is highly appreciated. These are my reference versions for Hendrix, Stones, Who, Stooges etc.

    ReplyDelete
  150. As usual, your artistry shines. Love your stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  151. There is this insufferable moron on the Hoffman forum who does 90% of the talking in Hendrix threads, but he is truly clueless and has the dumbest theories, the most frustrating of which is that vinyl transfers aren't legtitimate comparison vehicles, in addition to insisting that the UK Track of AYE sounds perfectly fine and smack-talking the Barclay. So thank you for putting this together to prove idiots like him wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I know who you mean, hahaha. He's a reason why I think twice before posting in a Hendrix discussion over there.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Possibly the most commented upon post these old red dry eys have stumbled across, and for good reason. I gotta say I agree with the spitit that I gleamed which is THANK-YOU, for ALL, Each and every one is seemingly a Labor of love, not about being the most this, highest that, KPop will get me a million likes but I hate it, hell, heres some Kpop. Nope, you do what you want, when you want, for the sake of making something that at times is already great, even better and often way better, and most of all, make that quality accessible to those that appreciate it. Anything that brings more clarity to the wizardry of Mr. James Marshall Hendrix is absolutely a great thing. Enough gushing,

  155. Thanks so much. Are you Experienced - the album that opened my ears to rock and roll.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Thanks a million for all you do and for making this available, it's very much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  157. Fantastic stuff! Thanks for the great site and all your efforts!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Thanks very much Professor!

    ReplyDelete
  159. Thank you thank you thank you so much (found out about this from Steve Hoffman forums - loved both the stereo and the mono)
