  1. What an unexpected treat! Thank you Prof!

  2. One minor correction: 5 songs have been officially released from this performance. 2 on In The West/JHE box, 2 on Concerts, and 1 from the oft-overlooked Variations on a Theme: Red House

Indeed! It's not even mentioned in the court document.

  7. Prof, This is gonna be a real treat for me.
I've heard about the Complete Show but have only heard the bits & pieces that have trickled out through the mentioned official releases. I doubt if the Hendrix Estate will ever release a version as close in accuracy as the one you are giving us here and I want to thank you the usual love & care that you approach every project you do.
    Cheers !!!

  12. Sounds great. What needed upgrading, compared to first post?

    ReplyDelete
  13. v2.0: 21-07-2020 (replaced ATM source with Feather Records source, they are identical except the former has digital glitches; used correct mastering setting on 05-09 -mistake on v1- and Tr 10 now taken from first source instead of second)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks for the upgrade. The first one is outstanding, so this one must be even better. Thanks again.

  15. Thank you for V2.0, and for your attention to detail, Prof

  16. Yeah, Tr 05-09 sound better here. While exporting, I accidentally used the mastering settings for 01-04 on that part too. My bad.

I had removed most of the glitches on v1, because I assumed it only circulated like that. But turns out, Burdon's team did send some corrections discs without glitches out in 1998 before being shut down by EH, so I redid it.

  17. I was just getting ready to listen to v.1 a second time when I noticed the repost. Thanks for posting this great show.

  18. I deleted my first download, so I can’t compare, but something is wrong with Purple Haze/Wild Thing. There’s a space between tracks and Purple Haze continues to play for 25 seconds into Wild Thing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Okay - I've gotten to the final tracks. Wild Thing plays 25 seconds into Star Spangled Banner, and there's another gap between SSB and Outro into which SSB plays for 25 seconds. And finally, the feedback at the end of Room Full Of Mirrors plays for 25 seconds into Purple Haze. I think this is where the issue begins. Up until then, everything tracks fine with no gaps between tracks.

  20. Shit, you're right. I'll fix later today.

  25. Professor - Thank you for this amazing recording. I downloaded the initial attempt a few weeks back, but never had the chance to listen. Enjoying the latest one now. It does not sound like a bootleg. This is a keeper!!!

  27. I'm grabbing this now, but I'm going to thank you even before I listen to it, Professor. :-) I have 4 or 5 versions of this on different CDs, and the 2 disc Charly is the best sounding one, so I'm truly glad that was one of your sources. Incidentally, and this doesn't affect what you used, but an interesting tidbit nonetheless, and maybe you already know this, but:

If you go down to the 2002 Charly entry, there are two different versions of disc, one with the wrong versions of songs in the early portion of the concert. Can't wait to listen to it, thanks Prof! :-D

  34. Hey Prof, this show was recorded by the Pye mobile team, under Glyn's supervision, am I right? And on 4-track? I often wonder how the instruments were balanced on the tape. Possibly stereo tracked for the instruments, one track for vocals/ flute / audience and one track for film sync, perhaps? From what I can gather over the years, Glyn Johns may have been a fine engineer, but with a big mouth and ego to match. He seems to make himself out to be more than what he really is. Doesn't seem to be a likeable person. Just my opinion. I think this is a fine performance, and I'd have to say my favourite JHE recording, and has been so for many years. The band may have been falling apart, but they really jelled on this night. And very nice job on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 4-track yes. It seems to me like it was divised like this: 1. Drums/congas 2.Bass/dave mason gtr 3. Gtr jimi 4.jimi voc/flute/audience
