  4. Amazing, outstanding and ta very much from Scotland

  5. Prof., The only way you can top this is if your next posting is a Zappa / Mothers project.
Thanks so much doing this Syd Floyd posting and your attention to details.

  8. Nice compilation. Cheers Prof

  9. Thanks Prof! The Early Years tracks finally sound good!

  10. Thanks for this. As far as I know, the 'aircheck' recording of the first Top Gear broadcast only captured the first 90 minutes of the show and the rest wasn't recorded, except 'off air', which is why those two 'missing' tracks don't circulate in top quality.

  11. Excellent sound! Thanks a lot Professor, and I agree with Noises From Apt 2A regarding Zappa/Mothers.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @sydfloyd: the rest definitely exists. At least one track not on the 90m tape from this airing i'm aware of circulates in great quality.

And also, the 90 minutes are actually not the first half but rather two parts of 47 uninterupted minutes from the show. Details here: https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/01_October_1967

  21. All I can say is thank you for another wonderful project. Actually, there are a few other things I would like to say.

During your "time off" I had the fortune of going back and listening to some of your other projects. I listened to them and was impresse wit the quality, organization and presentation of the selections. It left me wanting more, but it seemed like you had vanished without a trace. I'm so glad that you're back.

Here's what I'm trying to say with all of this: you do this the right way. There are plenty of other projects out there, but no one (including bootleg labels) put the time, effort and care into the presentations that you do with so many artists that I like. I'm especially enjoying these compilations.

All this to say...please don't stop. They help me make it through my work day and they never disappoint. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  22. Hi Prof. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come to the final tracklist? It's very good.

Sorry that it's so open-ended, but I would be very interested in knowing. : )

  23. Hey, Prof! Looks great (as usual!) but the link says "can't download at this time"? Do I just need to wait or....?

In any case, thanks for your always stellar work!

  24. @A Local Bloke:
Oh, I dunno... Strong opening track; instrumental opener side 2; Jugband at the end because it works well on Saucerful. Just my idea of a good sequence, basically.

    @Gummo
Please see top post front page.

  31. I shared this with a friend. His comment: Having listened to it all the way through, I'm surprised how well it hangs together as an album; the sequencing is excellent. Better than "A Saucerful of Secrets" which is really "bitty" imho.

    ReplyDelete
  32. thank you Prof. I've tried something similar although i think yours hangs together better

    ReplyDelete
  33. Excellent, thanks so much! It's great to have those 1974 mixes in best ever quality too. Still not sure the live track is indeed Reaction In G (as the BBC version and the live Rotterdam one are made of the same cloth, and this one's completely different... What do you think? Bests
    Doc

    ReplyDelete
  34. The BBC fragment seems to have the same groove as this, although it is played in another key. This version came a little bit earlier, so they may have retooled it a bit?

    ReplyDelete
  35. As a Floyd Fan this is a wonderful new take on an alternate reality. Great work!

    ReplyDelete
  36. There is also a studio version of "Reaction In G" that was completely ignored for the Early Years box and it also matches the BBC/Rotterdam song. The song played in Stockholm is something else entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thank you. Many years ago, I recorded a Floyd BBC session on our family reel-to-reel deck by sticking a microphone in front of the radio and covering the whole affair with cushions to muffle the sounds of domestic life going on around. It was the best I could do with the equipment to hand and my knowledge of electronics at the time! I know how good your work is, and I look forward to a somewhat better sound experience with this...

    ReplyDelete
  38. JazC, do you still have that tape? Or can you at least recall what broadcast it was?

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is such a convincingly imaginative imagining of an album every early Pink Floyd fan wishes had been made. Thanks for doing this. By the way, have you ever listened to your mix of the 'Saucerful' mono versus the one made for Record Store Day? Am I alone in thinking yours superior?

    ReplyDelete
  40. To be honest, I slightly prefer the RSD 2018.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I thought your mix was more focused. The sound of the RSD struck me as slightly shaggy in comparison.

      Delete
    2. I prefer the Prof's 1968 pressing to the RSD as well. The word I was thinking of is "balanced" but "focused" is a good way of putting it too.

  47. Many thanks - love this era of PF.

  48. Love it! I can't believe all the work you put into this (and all your other releases), down to the "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd." on the back cover :)
    Thanks!!
    Marc

  49. Those Brit DJs on the last few tracks sound like such gormless twits!
Obviously don't know when to shut up!
Oh well, the timeless music makes up for it.
    Thanks again, Prof. Stoned!
    Cheers,
    Marc

  50. Since you released it, this has become my go-to Floyd album. It's about time these great songs were collected together! I'm currently listening to it as I finish my breakfast, and it's as great as ever.

I love continuity, so made this tracklist for a stereo Saucerful from the '94-'95 CDs:

    1. Let There Be More Light
    2. Julia Dream
    3. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
    4. Corporal Clegg

    5. A Saucerful Of Secrets
    6. See-Saw

Many thanks once again for a flawless release.

  52. Thank you all the work you put into this. I have gone back and listened to The Madcap Laughs and you hear all the Floyd members on it anyways... To me that was the next "Floyd" album. I do love the singles as well and it's great you incorporated them here. :)

  70. Thank you so much for this - wonderful!

  71. Thanks for your creativity & distinct music/band selections. They coincide with my '60-'80 Golden Era of Music taste, especially classic rock & prog.rock. In the mid-80's as a teen I unfairly wrote off pre-Obscured By Clouds P.Floyd as too eclectic, haphazzard, no diretion etc. The band was also critical of that period, so I was justified. But upon recently listening to Pow R Toc, Reaction In G, Jugland Blues, I may have made a mistake. Looking forward to your future Works (pun intended) as always & Thank You!!

  72. Fabulous work. Thanks again!

  73. Have another with the same name. Have to dig it out to see if it's the same - but this is updated so maybe it doesn't matter!

  74. Every excited to listen to this. Thanks for your efforts!

  76. I decided to try my hand at making a cohesive sequence for the album that makes it sound like the follow up to Piper. After several iterations, I'm very happy with this one! I chose to include their pre-piper singles because of a lack of other recordings good enough to make the cut, but I don't think that's much of an issue, and it isn't unheard of for artists to do that. Here it is:

    1. Arnold Layne
    2. See Emily Play
    3. Apples And Oranges
    4. Candy And A Currant Bun
    5. Paintbox
    6. Scream Thy Last Scream

    7. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
    8. Vegetable Man
    9. In The Beechwoods
    10. Remember A Day
    11. Jugband Blues

Give it a listen if you'd like, I think it really works!
