I pitched the live tunes from the Paranoid set because they all had problems, especially Montreaux. You've made them not just listenable but highly enjoyable. Thank you!
Wanted to thank you for this one again Prof, been diving back into their catalogue given the events of the past week and especially enjoying their early bootlegs so this compilation was much appreciated!
Love the Beat Club material. Those versions of "Paranoid", "Blue Suede Shoes" and the coda to "Iron Man" pretty much set the stage for thrash metal, while this version of "Black Sabbath" is probably one of their heaviest, threatening to outdo even the stuff from Master Of Reality.
I guess you heard on the official Beat Club Youtube channel they just uploaded a previously unseen performance "N.I.B.". I hope they will upload more footage, any possibility of this will be added to this collection?
And the treats just keep coming. Awesome. I wonder if there is enough material for a Cheap Trick rarities comp up to 1979. Would love the complete Gary Ladinsky sessions. I love those songs but they sound flat to me. Love the bridge in "Oh Boy".

No, they don't. Of all recordings here that could be off-speed, Beatclub and Brussels are by far the least likely to be in the wrong speed, since they come from pro-film. Feel free to disagree, but no correction is coming.

ReplyDeleteWell maybe not flat. Like all of their early stuff aside from the debut I ask why isn't this more in my face and heavy. Studio decisions I imagine.

ReplyDeleteThe Brussel concert runs one half tone slower than Montreux.
ReplyDeleteI did notice the tone differences among the sets but I decided to leave things as-is. These guys probably just tuned their instruments by ear. PS
