  12. Amazing to have this collection! I didn't download the previous posting for this because I thought I was fine with whatever official collection of BBC material had come out (in fact, I have a couple of them), but this will be my go-to for Jimi at the Beeb. Many thanks, Prof!

    1. The original tape sources featured here are in the BBC archive, but the official releases use sketchy sources and dubs that are on file at the BBC and were unfortunately accepted as definitive at face value.

These kind of things still happen with BBC releases, if the compilers don't just grab stuff from random bootlegs (Rolling Stones).

  18. Super thanks for this. This now sounds like three guys absolutely ripping it up on basic gear in small cold rooms. It is what it is and it is good! The two official releases sound like ugly tarted up messes (though growing up on Alan Douglass' work I do have a guilty soft spot or tolerance for it). Coupled with all the poor sound source but historically interesting material this is just terrific. Once again thanks for making the definitive versions of so much music.

  20. Nice update to your previous version. I bought the two official CDs from the 80s and 90s but this is definitely an improvement on both. Thanks!

  28. I'm very impressed how you have improved many of the previous poor sounding tracks. Huge improvement. Can I suggest some of the Cream live tapes such as Tulip Bulb ? Your magic could make these sound spectacular.

  38. Inaccurate notation, based in the world of the Prof's mind! The AI generated audio is poorly done. Not recommended.

    2. Oh, and if you intend to point us poor slobs to a 25gbp jimpress edition, safe yourself the hassle. I will delete that. This is an open community. If you complain, I expect you to contribute. Not just point at your own perceived superiority. Thank you.

    3. Use my own name? You may wish to try that some time :-) I'm not posting from a "perceived superiority" perspective, simply from a corrective perspective. The accurate detail behind the BBC recordings is indeed placed in Jimpress 134. So any corrections can be found there. You had ample opportunity to speak with me last year, when you where undertaking this project but you remained too far up your own backside to do so. Nothing I can do about that to be fair. I will add here that the work you did on part of this release is poor as it simply makes bang average sounding recordings appear even poorer as the faults inherent in the recording captures has also been boosted. I've been and remain available for an adult chat any time, you wish, you have my contact details.

    4. Though it is fair to say, the notation is inaccurate along with some of the audio content sounding poorer than it does in the original files.

    5. Folk should also move away from the notion that this set is "complete", it isn't.

    6. But that's enough from me, here at least. Deleting my comments [as you already have] will leave a skewed understanding to things as can be seen elsewhere. Though as you are well aware of, I'm up for trading personal insults and slights on any platform.

    7. Yeah, just as I thought. Your research is behind a paywall and only meant for a small group of elite. If it had been freely available, I would have actually consulted it and credit you for it. But I wasn't gonna pay money for it, out of principle.

Again, if you come here to criticize my work, I think you should follow up with specific examples and corrections, which you refuse to do.

I also saw your verdict on the overall soundquality is largely based on what I did to a lofi recording in the completist folder (which btw was included for educational reason only). I don't think that's a very fair and balanced assessment but hey... if it makes you feel better.

FWIW, I did use completely trustworthy source material for my research, all copied from BBC documentation by people who know a lot more about this subject than me. To call my notes inaccurate is silly. Is it possible an error slipped in? Sure. But again, tell me and I'll correct it and credit you. Why make life difficult when it can be simple?

    8. Oh, and the one comment I deleted from you was recognized as spam. And you re-posted that sentiment again, which started this thread. So please, be fair.

    9. For the sake of transparency, I deleted Gordon's last post. It was more of the same.

Of course there's a paywall because the information is precious and always 100% accurate. How else could you learn that there is only one person on the planet who thinks the Barclay AYE is the worst sounding version, amongst mountains of other deeply researched and fully verified non-facts from the bowels of Gordon Jones. Refute and you'll find out what abuse is, buddy.

    11. Since Gordo brought up his pleasure at trading personal insults and slights on any forum, I wonder how much he pays the Hoffman forum for the exclusive right to personally insult the real experts and mislead their gullible members? All the important forums have blacklisted him for being a charlatan nutter, so it makes you wonder.
