F.A.Q.
Who? Retired sound engineer who loves music from the 60's & early 70's.
What? My aim is to make rare stuff publicly available again with the best possible sound quality.
Thanks very much, what a nice Sinterklaas present! Nice to see that you included pictures from my Who friends Henk and Nico, and the news item that I put on YouTube.
In the early ‘80s I started tape trading which started with me taping my bootleg LPs. Early on I got a tape of this show that ran just a wee bit fast, although it took some time for me to realize that! It’s long been a favorite of this year, in part because they do “Sally Simpson” which I believe Daltrey found very tricky to sing live, but also the quality of the tape I got was better than so many multi-generation AUDs, and of course the performance.
So thank you so much for spending so much time and care on this show!
Thanks so much, seems to be quite wonderful! Forgive me though, would it be a good idea to make the tape transfer available without any other work?? The de-mixing technology seems like it's working well these days but I still can't hardly believe it completely. Believe 100 percent that it's as good as it seems. Just a thought.
not sure why Prof reacted the way he did. You weren't unreasonable, anon. He should keep in mind that we're all here because we like and appreciate his great work. No need to get in a tizzy about it.
Thank you so much for the absolutely superb work you did on the Who 1969 Amersterdam performance. I am very very grateful a dedicated professional like yourself will do everything possible to ensure that these priceless audio artefacts are enshrined in our future. The restoration you have attained is nothing short of miraculous
Thanks in advance from the Australian bush! Can't wait to download this when I get back to the chilly climes of Canada! Got a feeling '26 is gonna be a good year ...
Thanks so much. Just cranked it and listened to the whole thing. The old bootleg of this always lacked a certain something for a good listen. This feels musical and breathes nicely. An essential companion to your other wonderful Who Tommy era Live releases.
Parts of the process used modern tools, but the creative and mastering decisions were made by humans. Nothing was generated or altered by AI in a way that replaces human work.
I've had a few people arguing the benefits of having the raw unmastered version of this as well.
Well, I certainly don't wanna be the one locking you out of Sonic Valhalla.... But on the other hand, I paid for the transfer myself and I don't feel obligated to give away * everything *.
So you will have to accept it as MP3 encoded at 160kbps with Lame decoder. Here it is, the full transfer (speed corrected, channel swapped and normalized but that's all).
Thanks so much for all of your efforts & hard work on this recording and for making it available to everyone! The show sounds terrific. This is definitely be the best version available.
Prof i was wondering how Bob managed to capture this show in complete form with this recording system that seems to be the same for the following USA tour ...... but they [namely Ottawa] seem to suffer from tapes running out during Tommy?
As noted, this was recorded by the NOS. Pridden -in all likeliness- only handed them a stereo signal. The Fall USA tour was captured on Pete's reel to reel machine, as he mentions in his book.
WOW!!! I have enjoyed this show since its first appearance through tape trading circles, and subsequent vinyl and CD issues. And as I expected, your work here elevates this recording to its highest audio enjoyment yet! You've done a lot to improve the balance and EQ, and the drums are more powerful and less "papery" than before. Wish the snare was mic'd more, but you have really made the drums in particular shine! I can't thank you enough for all of your hard work and generosity through the years. The collecting community are forever indebted to your sonic treasures and low generation sources. And thanks for transferring this particular show - it has never sounded better! Bless The Who - and the good Prof. Cheers good sir! Jon H.
Oh boy I am looking forward to this. I was once in contact with the gentleman that provided the source tape myself, and assisted in its "liberation." He was a cool guy. And it is a wonderful show.
Wow, I was blow away with the sound quality of this live performance. If anyone questions the greatness and intensity of the early Who, or Pete's ability as a guitarist, give this a listen and your questions will be answered. I can only imagine the time spent bringing the quality to the audio. Thank you for making this available!!
Wow.. Prof ! Christmas has come early. Thankyou so very much for this and all the gems you give us. AA

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to dive into this, thank you, Prof!
ReplyDeleteOff topic question, was AI used in your Second Hand remasters? If so I wouldn't buy them.
ReplyDeleteParts of the process used modern tools, but the creative and mastering decisions were made by humans. Nothing was generated or altered by AI in a way that replaces human work.

DeleteMany thanks Prof. I'd be happy to make a financial contribution to help cover those costs to have a lossless version.
DeleteNah, I'm happy to have paid for this myself. Thanks for your continued support!
Deletea little petty, Prof. Just don't reply if you don't want to share that. It's ok.
DeleteCan't win with some of you, sigh.
DeleteDo you mean that you paid the original taper for his tape? You bought it from him?
DeleteWhy not read?
Deletewow! thank you so much, all the best in 2026
