  35. This is great. I joked to my buddy: have you seen the new SDE version of the BBC Led Zeppelin material? ;-) I *love* all the little extra studio/interview bits. Another homerun, Prof Stoned. Thank you very much!!

  38. Hey Prof, thanks for this. Question, though. You mentioned 2 stereo mixes of the Paris Theatre show. The boot I'm familiar with has the vocals hard in one channel. Would this be the original mix? And you had said 8-track for this recording? wow, the Beeb really went full out, as weren't they still doing mono only until late 1970? Fantstic work as always. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi. The original mix has the vocals panned to the left, drums and guitar to the right and bass in the middle. I had to use a 30 sec fragment of it in the WLL medley.

  40. The 1st time through, I just listened to the whole thing en masse. This time, I'm listening by session. Each session stands out a little more that way. I think it's super cool that with the interview with Chris Grant, Jimmy and JPJ are pestered each to get "on mike" so they can be heard. That kind of detail is awesome ...

  46. Awesome! I've been hoping for an upgrade of the complete 1971 concert - I only had the official parts in the better mix.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm in Zep mood and am looking forward to hearing your work here. thanks Prof

  51. thanks Professor!

  52. Thanks Prof! I had the Playhouse Theatre and Paris Theatre shows on vinyl bootleg back in the day. I still have the Playhouse Theatre show, but sadly purged my vinyl in the mid-90's (HUGE mistake!). Every version of the Paris Theatre show was cut after Mess of Blues. I'm thrilled to have the material that was cut on the official release put back in. I also have The Swingin' Pig CD of the Playhouse Theatre show and always thought it sounded better than the official release. Plus it has the "It's Your Thing" section in Communication Breakdown.

  53. Thank you for all the work you put into your rips and into crafting these compilations. This is the definitive BBC Zep as far as I'm concerned!

  54. Great release, thank you very much again.

  55. First, I want to thank you for all your great work and monumental dedication. Your generosity is incredible, your research is impeccable and your taste in music is very similar to mine. That said, I just got a new version of the 1971 April 1 performance that appears to be more complete than yours. The info text file begins:

Main source: The Complete BBC Sessions, 2016, Atlantic/Rhino official release
Patching source: BBC in Concert, Forever Standard Series FSS 99-005 - courtesy of pernod (thanks!)

    Patched-in sections (timings approximate)
    1. Truckin' Little Mama - 6:00-7:27.5
    2. For What It's Worth - 10:42-12:10.5
    3. Honey Bee - 14:25-18:35

The info continues in great detail, stating that the patched sources were tweaked in several ways including amplification, fixing the stereo image disparity EQ'ing the patch source, etc. I can send you the complete info and/or privately share the music files if you like.

I hope you find this useful. Thanks again for everything.

    1. Please check my source info, my version is complete and made up from the best sources. The above mentioned is inferior to mine, because the official version is heavily edited and should not be used as the basic source. I needed only 1min from the FFS source.

  56. Professor, what's another word for pirate treasure?

  57. I was looking for the best-sounding version of the BBC sessions, but both 1997 and 2016 were a disappointment for me (especially CD 1). I was incredibly lucky to come across your work. Love the sound and the extra material. Thank you so much!

  62. Thanx for the Led Zep, Prof!

  63. I can't thank you enough for what you've done here, Professor. For many years now I have been searching for the 4/1/71 session in both good quality and as complete as possible. The sound quality on this version is outstanding, and it's far more complete than even the broadcast cassette I had of it years ago (that I absolutely wore out). It's so frustrating to read that this or that unofficial release is "the best one" only to find things missing or way too much compression/noise reduction once you get it. This is the exact mix I was always looking for without the edits/questionable sound of the official release. I know the band themselves (and many fans) consider this an average performance, but I have always loved it ever since I taped off the radio way back when. Thank you so much for all of your hard work, Professor!
