  2. Oh my god I have been waiting for a clean rip of this for years! That reissue LP sounded so poor, like an NR'd crosley needledrop.

    Thankyou prof!!!

  17. Thanks for another gem! Love this mix - so great to hear it from an original pressing as opposed to a reissue.

  18. Sounds fantastic as always, Prof. Your perfectionism and attention to detail do not go unnoticed and are very appreciated. Thanks so much for another gem.

  19. The original mix was the best mix IMHO. Thanks

  20. Thank you!! Great album, great mix!

  21. many more thanks to the prof of course. i think a lot of us have been crossing our fingers this transfer would arrive! and for those who believe 'the gold is in the live recordings': it is less often discussed that the titanic LIVE/DEAD lp was remixed for rhino's reissues. happily, the original (more echo for a creepier ambience among other differences) is easily enjoyed on the original WB cd. no idea about recent vinyl reissues (mofi, rhino).

  22. This Mac user has been on a little voyage of discovery about rar files and WinZip. I ended up with flac files which I can't unlock. Thanks anyway!

  23. Absolutely beautiful... a treasured addition to my collection replacing the 2013 high-def version, and clearly 'the' psychedelic mix. My sincere thanks for your efforts Prof.

  30. Amazing ! Great transfer of this rare mix ! Again, thank you Profstoned, your're really my favorite ND's ;-)

  31. Great sounding transfer! Played it several times and the quality is really top notch. The mix itself is more interesting than the version I have on CD (which I'm assuming is the remix version from the early 70s) so it's great to hear this 1969 release. Thanks.

  32. Thank you prof! Since they screwed up on all cd releases of this, and now the official download by giving us the wrong mix, it's up to us fans to correct the situation. I prefer this mix for sure, and can't even listen to the early 70s remix after hearing this in its psychedelic majesty. Thank you very much! This kills the shoddy mastering on the WB albums box from 2010.

  33. THANK YOU!!!! :-)

  34. wow...just wow. Kinda what I said at many Dead shows from 1981 to 1995, come to think...serious thanks!

  35. Thanks, I never heard the original mix :D .

  36. Never listed to much Dead back in the day. Now into it thanks to posts like this!

  37. Awesome - thanks, Prof!

  38. Had a low quality version of this, so happy to have a good quality version. Such a great album in it's manic raw energy. Thank you so much for all your wonderful work! It gets very much appreciation by all. I am an Analog guy and was wondering if you ever did any reel transfers?
    They sound so nice!

  39. Dear profstoned,

Thank you so much for your brilliant work on Aoxomoxoa. 3 years ago, I had originally written to you about the possibility, of you working your magic on this record. You were not completely positive but you left the door open.

The other day, I checked your site and there it was!!!
I cannot thank you enough. The 24/96 HiDef is crystal clear. It almost sounds like you found the master tapes. I cannot see how Garcia or anyone could find the album cluttered to perform a lobotomy on something so enchanting.

Again thanks for your work and have a pleasant summer.

    Kind Regards,

    zogaddams

  44. Wow, it's so rare to find something amazing on the internet, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is really worthwhile, there are significant differences and parts of the recording that really jump out like some claps on St. Stephen I never noticed before and a vastly different presentation of the drums on China Cat.

  46. WOW is a 1st reaction , but does not cover the range of emotions this rip brings me

    Thanks mate

  47. Thank you very much, this mix is deeply appreciated as is your time and energy in putting this together.
    Thank You

  48. I can't seem to figure out how to link up to a download here. I've been enjoying the remixed CD version of this album a lot lately.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Click CD Quality (16bit/44.1kHz) or
High Resolution (24bit/96kHz). Copy the link & visit filefactory.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks. I figured that out, and I managed to negotiate past some kind Internet blockage by having it "translated" to French! (I'm in Turkey). When I click on the free, original download it stays on "preparation" and never starts downloading.

I would love to hear your version, but I did find an mp3 rip so I can at least compare the differences, if not enjoy a high-fidelity experience.

  51. Hey prof, this is a real classic one here. Thanks for making it available in glorious hi-rez!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thank you most sincerely! What a find. A very nice fellow over at the Steve Hoffman Forums gave me the link to this page. WOW! Nicely done mate! :)

I look forward to checking out some of your others. Very much appreciate you taking the time and care to do this and make it available for others. EXTREMELY nice of you!

  53. Oh brother. I'm so going to enjoy this. Thanks Prof

  54. Thank you for the stellar work restoring the true mix of one of my all time favorite LPs. I can't believe how good this sounds! It may even end up being better than the upcoming 50th release.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks so much ProfStoned. I will be enjoying this tonight.

  56. Thank you for all your hard work Prof Stoned! Very much looking forward to hearing this mix!

  57. This is still better sounding than the tapes used for the 50th anniversary disc, by a good way. Thanks Prof!

  58. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort

  59. Dear Professor,
Many thanks for this item in particular and the old albums in general that you have offered here. You're a star, sir, a star; very nice work throughout, well done.
    Kind regards,

  61. Echoing what Pacealot said... Outdoes the digital release by a significant margin! Thanks for this!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Prof, thanks a million for this rip. Far better than Rhino's 50th anniversary release which apparently utilised a 1969 Reel-To-Reel tape. Far better. This is the best version I ever heard. And what a cover! One of the best examples of psychedelic art.

  63. Professor - thank you, thank you, thank you. I have had a minidisc copy of a cassette copy of a vinyl pressing a friend of mine had. That is the only copy of the original mix I have ever heard and it was pretty beat up by the time I got to copy it. I have always thought it the best mix of the album, hands down. So thanks for making a hifi hi res copy. Much appreciated!

  66. I'm listening to it now. What's your opinion of the 50th anniversary issue (2019) which contains both mixes?

    Oh and thanks

  67. Thanks! I never got into this, now i can try again!

  68. Good to have a superb rip of the superior original mix...THANKS

  71. Hiya,

When me or my cousin are out canoeing with an aunt of ours and come across some logs sticking out of the water we say 'Oh look, a concert!' (We call those deadheads here in Canada. She's a fan of the band). This release might be something right up her alley so I think I'll send it to her (And keep a copy for myself of course!).

I've downloaded almost everything on your blog and am very keen to give it some good listeneing (I've been consistently amazed so far... ), so I've just really got to thank you for all the amazing stuff you spend so much time, skill, effort and money on, I don't take any of it for granted. Thank you!!!

Your name is an assurance of the most premium quality available, and that's for many very good reasons.

    Lots of love,

    Justin

  72. The best version of the original mix I've ever heard, the widest frequency response, the best stereo separation, the best presence. I can't thank you enough Prof! :) :) :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. thanks so much -- I'd never heard the original stereo, it's a revelation!

  74. Truely amazing – just like listening to this jewel for the first time ever! Thank you! Great job!

  75. I'm with you on this one, Professor: I think it's one of their greatest albums. Woefully underrated! As your notes mention, there surely is plenty of gold to be found in GD live recordings, but there's also plenty to be found right here on this studio gem from 1969. All of that said, I can't wait to hear this mix of it. I have waited a long time for it to come along. As always, a huge thanks for your time and effort on these things!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hi Prof...your comment, "the only place where the band's blues roots, the earlier psychedelic leanings and the later country rock-
influenced song-writing come together" hits the proverbial nail on the head. Thank you for sharing your "rip" of the TRUE definitive version of this stellar LP. As a side note, my understanding is that Garcia was unhappy with the original mix, referring to it as "muddy and cluttered".

    ReplyDelete
  77. Thanks! Burned to CDR what I think was a first press years ago but was never completely sure

    ReplyDelete
  78. Thank you so much for this!! It blows the 2010 release out of the water.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thanks! I bought a UK reissue of the LP in 1981 and for years now have been confused because according to all I've read online that LP contains the 1969 mix which supposedly wasn't available after 1971. Your excellent rip confirms that that is indeed the case. I have no idea what the story tbehind that may be!

    1. It happened with Neil Young's first LP too. I'm guessing old metal parts reused by accident.
