  7. I previously had a rip of a Canadian vinyl. It sounded really good. This one has just another level of clarity which will make it my go to version. Thanks dude!

  8. I can't thank you enough, dear Prof! This is one of my favorite albums ever. I never heard it like this: a pristine masterpiece!

  9. Wow ....Wow ... Wow !!!! So my question is "Why didn't Rhino get it sounding this good?" The clarity and frequency range is amazing .... Once again, well done Prof ! Quick question: Is this the Terre Haute, Monarch or Pitman pressing ? My money is on Monarch.

  10. Its a CTH. But remember, Elektra did all their cuttings in-house, rather than supplying production masters to the plants.

  11. Ahhhh.
Since I've heard others attempt ripping "Fun House" and not achieve the same results all I can say is " Bravo Prof." !

  21. Oh my goodness, this is a superb rip of a fantastic LP. I'm now listening to 1970; Steven Mackay's tenor sax is stabbing at the air above a pumping rhythm section. Boom, the bottom end is amazing. Thank you Prof. Really impressive :)

  23. I saw the Iguanas play at the Mump and the Stooges several times in 1969 and 1970, most memorably at the Palladium (the best Stooges show imaginable, with Hari Krishna Band opening)and at Goose Lake.

I have a white label promo copy of this album and I recall it had slightly more bite on the snare drum. It's now in storage and I can't play it to compare and my new system includes slightly soft headphones and my ears are about 50 years older since I last saw them live (although I got to see Ron Asheton play with Destroy All Monsters). This version definitely smokes the various CDs of this album that I previously had.

I hope you can do a rip of the 45 single "Down on the Street" with an overdubbed organ by former Kingsmen keyboardist Don Gallucci ("Louie Louie" fame) who produced the album.

Professor, your body of work is stunning and a great achievement. Thank you so much.

  24. Thanks! I don't think the organ version appears on the orig USA single, only on a 2005 Rhino 7". Am I wrong?

  25. It is an honor to make a small contribution to your research. Wikipedia says, "An alternate version of "Down on the Street", featuring a Doors-style organ overdubbed by Gallucci, was pulled from the album and released as a single.[9] It was released the same month as Fun House, and fared slightly better on the charts." The source cited in a footnote credits the liner notes of 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions. I don't have that collection.

  26. Right, but I have read people who own the single report that it does not feature the organ.

  27. Thank you for looking into the report of an organ overdubbed on the 45rpm of Down on the Street. I have no reason to doubt the many people who reported that various versions of the single do no have an organ, including DJ pressings and French issues. Also thanks for the link to the Stooges fan site. All of your research is much appreciated.

  28. No prob. I have the 2005 single but since it appears on the CD boxset, it's probably the exact same source.

  35. much appreciated --thank you !

  36. This is an incredible rip of maybe my favourite record of all time. I have a great sounding early French pressing of this in storage, but rarely have the chance to spin it, so this will do nicely. As for the question of organ on the single, I still don't believe anyone's found an actual vinyl copy with the organ on it, so I believe it was a mistake made when compiling the box set to include it as a 'single mix', rather than a 'rejected mix'.
