  8. I was disappointed when this album was first released. It was so different from the first two. Eventually I came to appreciate this amazing album. Thank you for this masterful remix, it is deeply appreciated.

  9. Really looking forward to hearing this, was just listening to your mono version, first class work.

  10. This is outstanding. Great to have the drums in the middle of the stereo image. Prof, were you not tempted to tack on Wonder People at the end, just for completeness' sake?

  11. I can't hear the bassline on Old Man. is it just me?

    2. Apologies, Prof, I went back and listened to the as-released version and it would appear that I'm remembering a part that doesn't actually exist. I could have sworn... Anyway, carry on, it's all good. ;-)

  21. Prof,
You are full of miracles !! When I saw that to gave us a double post ... I flipped.
Putting your hand to "Forever Changes" was totally unexpected. I know your a super fan of this album from your past work but you doing a remix / remaster is a downright "love letter" to the spirit of Arthur, the band and everyone in the control room who is responsible for this masterpiece.

    Blessings upon your soul, Prof.

You gotta know that we're all sitting out here with wish lists now, right?!... hahaha.

  34. Stupendous! Actually there are no words to do justice to this miracle you have wrought.

  35. Thanks for your take (or mix) of this beautiful album, and in my opinion this is a top 10 album.

When listening to this a believe your mix is the best out there, far better than the crappy 80's cd. The original mono mix I find very flat. I heard some original and clean US pressing of this album, and and have always like them very much.

But I think, with your take, this is how the digital copy should sound like (not the one's that the majority of people listening to on Spotify these days). You did an incredible work (again). God bless you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't know how you do it - but keep doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The best ever mix of this album, may thanks Prof.

  38. Thank you Prof! I've been enjoying your work for a long long time. Please keep it up.

  39. Wow. I wonder if you have any interest in remastering the Syd Barrett solo albums. I would love to hear what could be achieved. Many thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Your Piper At The Gates was sublime. I always felt of the many classic albums Syd's solo work is an example dreadful audio. The Japanese re release series were a better balance for me but it's only when someone, like yourself, with real skill, talent passion and audio literacy remasters them, you hear the real magical journey within

    ReplyDelete
  41. again one of my favorites from the day- & of course I have the vinyl & all the rest of them & all the solo stuff & many still sealed.......but a few issues. I read daily & talk to Johnny Echols a bit, & in his extreme detailed postings & in the the somewhat recent "Love Story" DVD release, they- Johnny, Arthur! & Stuart agree a version was recorded with "The Wrecking Crew" but it was NOT the album release. "They" state that the band was so moved by that recording, they swore they could do it better!, went back to the studio & rerecorded what was actually the released version. So as the album has been remastered again recently & I have never had issues with the digital recordings as my sound system is easily enhanced if need be, I look forward to your version. Something better would be amazing.

    1. I've heard this same story, but in the version I heard, the band were so upset by the session men being used on those first two recorded songs, that they asked Arthur if they could do the rest of the album as a band. However, those two tracks recorded with the Wrecking Crew were not, to my knowledge, done over, although group overdubs were used.

    Prof, You've spoiled me !

Please go into the rest of the Love (Elektra releases) catalogue and work your magic. I keep listening to your remix on "Forever Changes" and want to listen to the first 2 albums as well as "Four Sails" but the inferior stereo mixes that were done are painful to listen to since you've opened the door to possibilities with your remix.

  43. Marvellous job, prof! A whole new listening experience with an album I've heard hundreds of times. And all the lyrics chrystal clear too, after fourty years at last I know what the old man gave him: a tiny ivory BALL. Thanks for making my day once again!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Now I only wish you will grant the same treatment to Da Capo, which now sounds a bit dull compared to your delightful doing :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'd be more than happy if you only remastered Side One of "Da Capo." Side Two can be left in the dustbin.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Outstanding PS!! ONe of my alltime favorite albums and you took such care to shine this one up. Thanks!

  47. These songs just take off. Fabulous job.

  48. As a long time collector of the best sounding vinyl and CD copies of famous and not-so-famous rock classics, I feel truly blessed that Prog Stoned has given us so much wonderful music to listen to. And as someone who has alos dabbled in transferring rare vinyl to the digital domain, I have to say that you set a new standard to aspire to. Your dedication, patience and diligence means we are sure we get the very best of everything. I cannot thank you enough.

  51. beautiful work, thanks so much for not just keeping it to yourself , thanks for all the effort in restoring these magnificent gems i bought a rhino post two thousand pressing of this , which had the flaws you mentioned and was a poor pressing to top it all off ... much appreciation !!... 52. Dear Prof, really love your posts of sixties psych and garage bands. I know you do not take requests but i hope one day you will Post a mix of the original Nuggets compilation. I bought a cd release a few years back and the mix is appalling. Keep up the great work you are doing.

  53. Nice work, mate. It’s truly sad that the multis for this album are likely still sitting in someone’s personal collection and weren’t recovered in the FBI raid

    3. The person who rightfully owns the tapes was awesome enough to protect music lovers from the same horrible revisionism that befell the Beatles recently. Not only that, he also gave the world an insightful rough mix from his multi's, with the added bonus of 8 layers of tube distortion = lots of mid-range magic! What more could you wish for, bucko?

  54. I bought Flash - Live In The USA CD and was surprised that the Prof. remastered the lo fi audience cassettes. Still rough considering the source but a welcome addition to there catalog.

  61. I met and spoke with Arthur after a show shortly before he passed. He seemed to be genuinely pleased and even humbled (as Arthur could be) that people still appreciated his gift as a songwriter and, in particular, this masterpiece. Looking forward to hearing your remix. Thanks

    1. the 1st time I actually saw Arthur was at Maxwells in 1993. He had a pickup band & wasnt thrilled with them. He played solo a lot. The audience was not into it & talked thru the set. & he didnt care & during some banter he ask the audience a question & I answered & we talked a bit & laughed. No one seemed to take note. & when the show ended he gave me a wave.
